Phrenology head with storage tray.
Phrenology is the study of the human skull, depicting specific sections as having particular functions. Originally developed in the 1700s, phrenology is now regarded as pseudomedicine.
The phrenology head, depicting the different ‘sections’ of the skull, is a well-known visual icon. This ceramic phrenology head is designed for storage and has a removable lid that reveals a tray.
Fun fact: ‘L.N. Fowler’, the name on the front of the head, was one of the pioneers of phrenology in the United States in the 1800s.
